Read with Cilley the Snail!
Help Cilley the Snail munch her way through 1000 Books in this fun early literacy program! Any child not yet in kindergarten is eligible to register. Those who complete the program will get their name in a book of their choice, as well as a special book bag! To register, stop by the library to pick up your booklet.
The single most important thing you can do to prepare your children to read is to read to them every day. Research proves that children need to hear 1,000 books before they begin to learn to read independently. Reading to children will increase their vocabulary and their listening and narrative skills. Reading with children will also help to instill in them self-awareness, confidence and an understanding of their place in the world. And on top of it all: It’s fun!

It’s easy…
One book a day for three years = 1,000
Three books a day for one year = 1,000
Ten books a week for two years = 1,000
